Short Term Vioxx Danger

It certainly does not change my opinion of current Vioxx legislation and this study does leave some to be desired but it is still a blow to Merck. Short term Vioxx use increases your risk of heart attack according to a Canadian medical journal.

I’d naturally like to see it repeated as an actual trial. The study presented by the CMAJ merely looks at the records and history of Vioxx users in Canada’s, where as a nationalized system centralized databases are more available. Obviously such records are sometimes incomplete, etc. which a controlled clinical trial (such as the VIGOR study the data from which established the 18 month risk) does not suffer from.

The study did have some findings helpful to Merck, you can read a biased summary at Point of Law.
