Toe Tags Are The Answer!

A surgeon in England operates, not on the wrong body part, but the wrong patient. The catch? Both patients needed the same procedure.

Officials said that theatre lists were changed at the last minute and gynaecologist Deborah Hickling failed to check Liezl Hesketh’s identity band before using keyhole surgery techniques to examine her womb.

Fortunately, Ms Hesketh had been due to undergo the same examination anyway – but the identity blunder at Wythenshawe Hospital meant the doctor was working from another woman’s notes as she did the operation and so didn’t carry out a second test that Ms Hesketh was due to have.
