Can Someone Please Beat The Suns?

The Spurs own the Phoenix Suns. I don’t have the slightest doubt who will reach the Western Conference Finals if those two meet in the Conference Semis (as is likely).

What I’m concerned about, and why the Suns need to lose, is San Antonio’s potential first round match-up in the NBA Playoffs.

The Spurs as the third seed are looking at the Denver Nuggets. Holders of the current longest winning streak in the NBA. Lovely, we get a team streaking into the playoffs.

The Suns as the second seed are looking at playing the Los Angeles Lakers. Who, after losing to the Suns last night, you might not expect to beat the Jefferson High Varsity team right now. The Lakers have lost 8 of their last 10.

There’s no one who wouldn’t rather face Kobe and the Lakers to open the playoffs. It could still happen for the Spurs. They are two games back of the Suns with three games left, and they hold the tie breaker over Steve Nash & Co.

Just Accidentally Sit On Steve Nash…Or Something

Either:

  • The Spurs win out, Suns lose 2 of 3
  • Spurs win 2 of 3, Suns lose out

Neither team has an easy schedule. The Spurs finish at Dallas, at Memphis, and with Denver. The Suns finish at Utah, at Houston, and with the Clippers.

It is unlikely the Spurs will catch the Suns with only three games left. But the Jazz get the Suns on the second night of a back-to-back tonight. Tip off is at 7:00 pm CST on NBA TV. This is a game Spurs fans need the Suns to lose.
