Disgusting But Joyous

I couldn’t be happier for the families of the British sailors and marines who are being released from Iranian captivity. But to listen to Ahmadinejad is just so enraging. Just reading these words is maddeningly annoying.

Iran’s president said today that the country had “pardoned” and would release the 15 British sailors and marines who have been held there for nearly two weeks.

Speaking at a news conference in Tehran, Mr. Ahmadinejad said that the captives would be taken to Tehran airport immediately after he finished his remarks. “They are free after this meeting, and can go back to their families,” he said.

Mr. Ahmadinejad said that the captured Britons had all confessed to trespassing in Iranian waters and that Iran had “every right” to put them on trial, but had decided not to. “I want to give them as a present to the British people, to see that they are free,” he said.

Afterward, he greeted the captives one by one and shook their hands.

And finally to make me vomit,

“When we think of Islamic kindness, we are not expecting anything in return.”

I’m trying not to get so worked up over a current event :) I’m really happy for the families of these British sailors and marines. I’m glad they’re coming home.

What a load. Despite Ahmadinejad’s assurances that they would be on a plane as soon as the presser was over, turns out that they won’t be out of Iran until tomorrow (Thursday) morning at the earliest.
